Who We Are

Project Kampfire is a community-focused initiative dedicated to empowering youth. Inspired by the warmth and connection of a campfire, we create spaces where young people can explore, think critically, and build meaningful relationships. The campfire is our guiding metaphor, symbolizing the light of learning, the warmth of community, and the spark of inspiration that fuels personal growth.

Our organization, formerly known as Kamp Kiwanis, has a proud history of providing transformative experiences through camp and outdoor education. The “K” in Kampfire is a tribute to our roots with the Kiwanis Clubs of Calgary, honouring the legacy of community service that continues to inspire our work. While our name has evolved, our commitment remains the same: to offer programs that foster personal growth, environmental stewardship, and a sense of belonging.

The transition to Project Kampfire reflects our renewed vision and expanded reach. By embracing this new identity, we are able to connect with even more communities, extending the impact of our programs far beyond a single location. Our summer camp will continue to be known as Kamp Kiwanis. Our vision is a world where all youth grow into responsible, engaged members of their communities, and every initiative we undertake is a step toward making that vision a reality.

What We Do

At Project Kampfire, we provide transformative experiences and opportunities for youth through outdoor adventures, environmental education, and leadership development. Rooted in our core values—having fun, staying safe, and nurturing growth—we create programs that inspire exploration, foster personal growth, and encourage connection with others and the natural world.

Formerly known as Kamp Kiwanis, we continue to offer the same impactful programs that have enriched the lives of youth for decades. Through activities like nature immersion, team-building challenges, and hands-on learning, we equip young people with the skills and confidence to thrive. Our initiatives empower participants to think critically, act responsibly, and build meaningful relationships, preparing them to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond. Whether it’s around a campfire or on a hiking trail, we aim to ignite curiosity, cultivate resilience, and help youth discover their potential.

Testimonials

In the midst of the adventures going on at summer camp or outdoor school, we notice the connections our staff are making with students and campers.  We see the relationships forming between kids and nature and the building of community in cabin groups. We hear the laughter during skits and the questions pondered about how ecosystems work.  We feel the sense of calm during nature nooks (journaling spots) and the warm embraces from kids as they depart after “the most amazing summer camp week of their lives.”  But what about after camp or outdoor school is done?  What kind of lasting impact have we made?  This is perhaps one of the hardest things to measure or even place a value on, but their words help us to know.
